Huge slab of rare "snowflake" Mohawkite from the Keweenaw peninsula of Michigian. This rare stone has only been found in one place, the old Mohawk mine, and was only mined for a few years around 1900. As such, it's hard to come by today, particularly in large cabinet-sized specimens.

Mohawkite is a combination of copper and copper arsenides. The two main copper arsenides in Mohawkite are Algodonite and Domeykite. "Snowflake" refers to mohawkite material that forms a web pattern in white quartz , looking like white snowflakes falling through a silver sky.

Note: Mohawkite contains arsenic and other potentially hazardous metals, as well as quartz. As with all lapidary material, please research and use appropriate equipment and techniques for safe handling.

474 grams ,  7.1mm thick

Shown dry with ruler and wet in hand.
